In 2017 der deutsche Handel mit Afrika belief sich auf 60 Milliarden USD und in dem gleichen Zeitraum haben deutsche Firmen 9 Milliarden USD in Afrika direkt investiert. Verglichen mit andere Nationen wie China ist Deutschland weiter hinterher. Laut einer Umfrage des French Council of Investors in Africa (Cian) liegt Deutschland jedoch mit 45% der positiven Meinungen von Entscheidungsträgern an der Spitze, gefolgt von China (37%), den Vereinigten Staaten (34%) und Japan (34%).
